Here is our youth hero of February!
Nalubega Alice (20) a local potato and vegetable grower from Nama sub county Mukono district started practicing farming from her primary three at the school. Her parents wanted her to go for a computer course after O-level a thing she rejected insisting that she wanted to be a farmer not until when she joined a women's farming group of 35 members called DELO Women's group to get more exposed on agriculture. "I joined DELO to get more ideas about agriculture so that I can also convince my sisters, brothers and other youths around the village that every one has to look at farming as a passion and I am the only youth in the group other members are more than 37 years claiming that youth are complicated but I insisted to be a member with the support of my mother who is also a member in the group. This helped me also finding Slow Food Youth Network where there are youths whom we share the same ambitions" she says. She also adds that she is trying her best to convince her colleagues joining her so that they can change the future of our food system and implement the philosophy of Slow Food of Good, Clean and Fair food. "Am so grateful to be a member of SFYN Uganda which has given me a platform to continue mobilizing other youths to practice sustainable agriculture", Through her hard work, she was also appointed to be a mobilizer of youths at the Mukono-Wakiso earth market management committee. It is our role as youths to change our food consumption and production, lets support our small scale producers and fight for the survival of our rich biodiversity. #WFTP
