Slow Food Youth Network South Africa
The Slow Food Youth Network South Africa, part of a global SFYN network of young people for change in the food system towards good, clean and fair food.
Late last year we saw Slow Food Youth Network as a #seedofthegoodanthropocene amongst many other seeds of social innovation, and using these seeds imagined what the tangible future could be if these seeds grew into a forest.
See what came out of our time together:
This weekend in Durban at ID: Green Camp Gallery Project
On Saturday APR 29, SFYN held its first event in the city of PE/Nelson Mandela Bay. The disco soup was lots of fun and formed part of the #overgrowthesystem awareness day.
We collected food waste from supermarkets and received surplus from urban farmers. This transformed into a delicious butternut soup.

#ParticipatoryGuaranteeSystems are a type of inclusive third party certification for 'organic', permaculture and agroecological farmers and producers. Members of the the PGS (farmers, consumers, producers, restaurants, shop owners) gather together at different farms and go though production and other elements of the farm. It is an accessible way to get to know your farmer and begin to understand how the food system works.
The next Western Cape visit is to Campbell Village on the West Coast. Join in!
We already have future leader, we just need to make sure we shift this messed up food system.
Some moments of our #TerraMadreDay2016 at SEED with the #FoodFreedomMitchellsPlain collective. We look forward to many more events!
This is happening around the corner from our event on Saturday! Do join if you are interested in PGS (Participatory Guarantee Systems) processes and what an alternative to the expensive third party certification is. Magda is a LEGEND! Mitchell's Plan, CT.

"There are thousands of people across the world who fight against the grip of finance over the oceans"
We at the Slow Food Youth Network South Africa wish to support the fishers of the seas, their struggles and towards their freedoms. This film teaser was shared by Christian Adams, who joined the voices at the 2015 We Feed The Planet Terra Madre event. In his words, "All I ask is a few minutes of your time to see this clip. This is a documentary made at CoP21 in Paris in 2015. Maybe, just maybe, you'll be able to understand why the Snoek is becoming so scarce in the Northern and Western Cape!!"
