Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2016

September 22 to 26, 2016

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2016
Every two years Slow Food’s ‘Terra Madre Salone del Gusto’ brings together thousands of farmers and food producers from over 150 countries to Turin, Italy. Around 250,000 chefs, scientists, food producers, students, designers, farmers and politicians gather; all working towards a food system where good, clean and fair food is available for everyone.

2016 is a special year, marking the 20th anniversary of the first edition of Salone del Gusto and Slow Food Italy’s 30th birthday.

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto ‘steps outside’
2016 was the first year that the event was held completely outdoors across several of the most beautiful and historical sites of the city of Turin. The step outside is the result of organisers recognising that the concept of hosting the event inside a convention centre is outdated. The philosophy of good, clean and fair food, belongs to everyone and by holding the event outdoors it can be enjoyed by the broadest possible public spectrum.

SFYN Tank & Buidling Future Food Leaders
As in every Terra Madre the Slow Food Youth Network organised activities focussed especially on youth. This year, however, this was not the 'traditional' style of having conferences and discussions. This year SFYN organised the SFYN Tank, a full-day social design workshop where food issues were tackled by 99 people working in the field of food from all around the world. Also, smaller 'Building Future Food Leaders'-session were organised in the SFYN-Booth. What these activities actually are, how they turned out and what lessons are learne are presented in the guide below: 'Building Future Food Leaders - A Change Makers Guide' (click image below to download the guide).

The Guide
This guide has been created by Slow Food Youth Network, Hivos and Food Hub, and is based on our collaboration and inspiration during Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2016. Our shared mission is to empower (young) people around the world to become actively involved in the transition of the food system. This guide is about Building Future Food Leaders and accelerating the transition towards a good, clean and fair food system
